If Then Else takes as its point of departure a conditional statement from programming languages. Subject to true-or-false evaluation, the expression normally operates within a logical system of rules and decisions. Presented as a handwritten neon text and detached from its algorithmic function, however, it loses its operational certainty and becomes an open linguistic construct. No condition is specified, no action follows, and no result is produced.
The work can be situated within a lineage extending from Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy of language to Conceptual Art. Wittgenstein's early writings proposed that meaningful propositions derive their sense from their logical relation to the world. Artists such as Joseph Kosuth subsequently transformed language itself into artistic material, treating propositions, definitions and statements not merely as vehicles of meaning but as objects of reflection. Yet rather than presenting a stable proposition, the artwork produces an incomplete logical structure whose condition remains undefined.
The statement becomes an unstable proposition oscillating between command, declaration and question. Language no longer communicates certainty but reveals its own incompleteness, exposing the fragile relation between logic, meaning and the production of sense. In doing so, the artwork investigates the conditions under which representation and meaning are produced through the means of art.

Related works such as Bracketing and Run extend this investigation towards phenomenology and action. While Bracketing reflects on the suspension of judgement and experience, Run confronts computational execution with human behaviour and intention.
