Through the permutation of the five research fields:

colour, time, signal, language and possibility

an interconnected field of conceptual relations emerges:

COLOUR | TIME , TIME | SIGNAL
POSSIBLE | LANGUAGE , LANGUAGE | TIME

are among the fundamental axes of LAb[au]’s artistic research.

ORIGAMI SQUARE SUPERBLACK

LAb[au], Origami Square Superblack — kinetic Superblack relief of 36 moving squares

Why construct a rule-based kinetic artwork whose movement can barely be seen? Beneath its apparently monochromatic surface, 36 moving squares combine order and randomness, yet Superblack absorbs the light through which their pattern and motion could be perceived. The work thus conceals the very logic that constitutes it, turning its rational construction into an enigma.

While the monochrome has historically opened painting towards infinite space, here space is physically absorbed. The work asserts painting’s autonomy not through abstraction or symbolic representation but through the physical properties of colour itself. This painting suspends the viewer between logic and perception, between the visible and the absorbed.
