FESTIVALS
The following chronology documents a significant chapter in the evolution of LAb[au]'s practice. Festivals devoted to electronic culture and experimental artistic production offered an international framework in which these practices could be developed, presented and discussed within a broader artistic and historical context, contributing to the gradual recognition of computational and algorithmic practices by museums and contemporary art institutions. Within this context, LAb[au]'s work evolved from audiovisual performances, choreographic collaborations and immersive environments to large-scale installations, public artworks and institutional commissions. As contemporary art progressively embraced these artistic approaches, the ecology of presentation itself evolved: festivals became one context among others, alongside museums, collections, galleries, biennials and public art programmes.
